What is an Interpersonal Process Group?

In interpersonal process group members come together to explore how they relate to others—and what happens internally for them—within the therapist-facilitated space.

In group, your thoughts, feelings, reactions, and communication patterns show up naturally as you interact with other members.

The group becomes a "microcosm" of your relational world: the dynamics, fears, needs, and strengths that show up in your life show up in group too. The therapists help the group slow down, reflect on what's happening in the moment, and use those interactions for insight and change.

Rather than just talking about your relationships, you get to experience them, explore your reactions as they happen, and practice healthier ways of engaging—all with guidance, support, and compassion.

Why Interpersonal Process Group?

KZ Psychotherapy's approach is rooted in the understanding that, while individual therapy can be deeply transformative, it also has meaningful limitations—especially when it comes to helping clients translate internal insight into real-life change. Many people find themselves thinking, "I understand what's happening. I have the insight. So why can't I actually do something different?"

The answer lies in the simple truth that we grow—and are challenged—through our relationships. Changing the relational patterns we've been practicing for years is a profoundly complex process.

In individual therapy, a clinician learns about how you are in your relationships through what you describe and how you interact with them in session. But the nuanced ways you engage with others—aren't fully visible in a one-on-one context. Because of this, your therapist can only see a fraction of the full relational choreography you use to move through in your daily life, which limits how much they can help you shift it.

Growth through Connection: Interpersonal Process Group creates a living, dynamic environment where your relational patterns naturally arise in real time—with multiple people, multiple perspectives, and multiple emotional cues. What can only be guessed at in individual therapy becomes directly observable in group. You have the opportunity to see yourself more clearly, receive genuine feedback, and experiment with new ways of relating in a supportive space. Group becomes the arena where insight turns into action, and where long-standing relational patterns can finally begin to shift.
