Interpersonal Process Group

Growth through Connection

Therapy that turns awareness into change through real relationships

Relationships play a vital role in our happiness, well-being, and sense of self. Changing the relational patterns we've been practicing for years, however, is a profoundly complex process. An interpersonal process group is a therapist-facilitated space where you get to do that. Your thoughts, feelings, difficulties, and strengths become visible in group as you naturally interact with other members. The therapists help the group slow down, reflect on what's happening in the moment, and use those interactions for insight and change. Rather than just talking about your relationships, you get to experience them, explore your reactions as they happen, and practice healthier ways of engaging—all with guidance, support, and compassion.

The Benefits of Joining

Emotional Insight

Develop a deeper understanding of your emotional landscape and how your feelings influence your daily life and interactions.

Relationship Patterns

Learn to identify positive behaviors and qualities you bring to relationships as well as recurring patterns that no longer serve you.

Feeling Less Alone

It is healing to discover that others understand what you are going through, and even more so to allow yourself to be deeply known and cared for.

Practicing New Ways

It is intimidating to experiment with new ways of being with others and communicating. Group is an opportunity to do so in a therapeutic environment.

What to Expect

Session Structure

The group is unstructured, meaning we focus on the 'here-and-now' interactions between members. Facilitators guide the process to help you explore how you impact others and how they impact you in real-time, safe, relational practice.

Commitment & Logistics

Groups consist of up to 8 adults meeting weekly for 90-minute sessions. We ask for initial commitment to ensure group stability, as deep interpersonal work requires consistency and mutual trust between members.

Pre-group Meetings

Two one-on-one sessions with a group facilitator are typically required to join a group. These sessions provide an opportunity to explore your goals, answer questions, and make sure the group feels like the right next step.

Common Questions

What if I don't feel comfortable talking in a group?

It is common to feel uncomfortable about sharing in a group or not knowing what to say. Moments that feel challenging are often where meaningful growth happens. The group therapist’s role is to support each person in finding a way of participating that feels right for them. You’re encouraged to engage at your own pace, balancing comfort with challenge.

Do I really need group?

While individual therapy can be deeply transformative, it also has meaningful limitations—especially when it comes to helping clients translate internal insight into real-life change. In individual therapy, a clinician learns about how you are in relationships through what you describe and how you interact with them in session. But the nuanced ways you engage with others aren't fully visible in a one-on-one therapy context, which limits how much your individual therapist can help. Interpersonal process group addresses these limitations.

Do I also need individual therapy?

Individual therapy is not generally required to participate in group. Individual therapy can provide space to explore underlying emotional or developmental roots of what surfaces in group, work through trauma, and build needed coping skills.
